[ARCHIVED] AZGOHS FUNDING PROMOTES MORE PROACTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) would like to thank our partners at the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (AZGOHS) for their continued support. Over the past fiscal year, AZGOHS has provided PCSO with generous grant funding, which has gone to supporting even more proactive traffic enforcement across Pinal County.

Thanks to this funding, PCSO was able purchase two new upfitted Ford Explorers for use in traffic enforcement, as well as new digital cameras to help during vehicular crimes investigations.

In addition, these grants have allowed PCSO to install Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS) into even more patrol vehicles. TraCS allows deputies to conduct traffic stops more quickly and safely by instantly scanning driver licenses and vehicle registration forms, rather than manually entering the information.

And finally, thanks to this generous grant, the PCSO Traffic Unit has been able to attend additional training courses and conduct new monthly DUI and speed enforcement details. These monthly details are in addition to our regular Holiday DUI Task Force events. Just in the last several months, these efforts have already helped to take dozens of impaired drivers off the streets.

"Maintaining safety for all motorists on our County roadways has always been a priority for our agency," said Sheriff Mark Lamb, "thanks to this funding, I am pleased to say our traffic enforcement can be even more proactive. I am grateful to Director Alberto Gutier and AZGOHS and their continued support of these efforts."
