Pinal County, Arizona -  Pinal County Juvenile Court is helping celebrate the 2023 Pretrial, Probation, and Parole

Supervision Week (PPPS Week) on July 16-22. The theme Stronger Together highlights how community corrections

professionals are working to create opportunities for POs at all levels to work together to find solutions to the challenges

we face in our field.

The annual Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) campaign is a time to engage the public,

policymakers, and legislators in recognizing the work that community corrections professionals provide to keep our

communities safe. Community corrections professionals oversee persons convicted of a crime outside of jail or prison

and are administered by agencies or courts with the legal authority to enforce sanctions.

Community corrections professionals have helped drive significant, positive changes in our nation, by helping to provide

the appropriate supervision and service to the right person at the right time. Monitoring may take the form of home

contacts, drug testing, making sure the offender attends counseling sessions and helping offenders to find suitable

housing and employment. Many officers also supervise offenders using electronic monitoring equipment which requires

expert knowledge of newer technologies.

“As we transitioned out of the COVID-19 Public Health Crisis, the community corrections field was forced to become

much more innovative in the response to the crisis. Ultimately moving the mission and organizational goals of probation

supervision, CASA, dependency services and the juvenile detention operations, to a much different level. Probation

officers and staff generally relied on in-person contact and relationship-building to forge a connection to the youth and

The face-to-face relationship, as well as the broader engagements with the youth, families and the communities, were

often times necessary to effectuate positive behavior change with the youth we serve. Business practices were forced

to change, which required staff to modify their approaches to probation supervision and services. I applaud all Juvenile

Court staff for their efforts during, what may be considered, their most difficult time in their career.”

During the 2023 Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week), Juvenile Court will be celebrating the

challenging work of our probation, detention, dependency, and CASA staff who continue to provide creative solutions

for the youth and families we serve.

During PPPS Week, we urge you to learn more about this amazing profession, take the time to thank the community

corrections professionals that serve your community, and help us support the profession. We know that by working with

our community partners, we are stronger together,” added Smith.
