Hunt Highway Project

Hunt Highway Project Spotlight

With the help of “the pothole tax,” Pinal County was able to transform Hunt Highway from a two-lane road with flooding issues into a major thoroughfare that not only relieved congestion but also serves as an economic driver for the region. As a joint project with Queen Creek and Maricopa County, it serves as an excellent example of regional cooperation. Construction started in 2013 and was carried out in four phases, with the final phase being completed in 2017. This total project was funded through federal funding, state funding, and $12.2 million from the 2006 excise tax funds. The improvements to Hunt Highway are an outstanding illustration of how the voter-approved funding is helping the citizens in San Tan Valley and the northern portion of Pinal County by not only providing necessary improvements resulting in safer road conditions but also convenience for residents.
